This project is dedicated to exploring and uncovering the rich, complex history of the former crown land of Galicia. Once part of the Austrian Empire and later Austria-Hungary, Galicia was formed from the southeastern territories of the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth after its partition. Today, this historic region spans southeastern Poland and western Ukraine, offering a fascinating blend of cultures, traditions, and legacies that connect countless families to its storied past.

Galician Genealogy was born from personal research into family roots in this unique and historically significant area. What began as a search for answers quickly grew into a passion for discovering the lesser-known, often-overlooked sources of genealogical information. While traditional church records of births, marriages, and deaths are invaluable, they represent only a small fraction of what is available.
